Former Valencia High golfer Max Homa helped the University of California, Berkeley men’s golf team win its third tournament of the year this week in Kahuku, Hawaii.

The Cal junior concluded a three-round score of 7-under for second place overall at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Friday at Turtle Bay Resort’s Arnold Palmer Course.

Homa’s was the top score for Cal in the tournament and it helped the Golden Bears win the event for the second straight year after posting a team score of 17-under.

The score was seven strokes better than the 10-under mark set by University of Nevada Las Vegas and Duke University in a tie for second place.

Duke’s Julian Suri won individual medalist honors at 11-under, four strokes ahead of Homa, who posted rounds of 65, 71 and 72 for his three rounds at the par-72, 7,218-yard course.

Homa came into the week as Golfweek.com’s 63rd-ranked men’s collegiate player in the country.

Next up, Cal returns to its home state to compete in the Del Walker Match Play Championship in Long Beach, which starts Feb. 27.
