A light rain of less than an inch fell on the Santa Clarita Valley on Wednesday, leaving parts of the SCV  soaked with rainfall, and even parts under snow flurries.

The first report of snow in the SCV occurred around noon Wednesday, when snowfall was seen north of Castaic, a CHP officer said, and there could be more as the snow level is forecast to range from 3,000 to 4,000 feet.

Additionally, the weather service warned of blowing snow along Interstate 5 on the Grapevine, Highway 14 and Pearblossom Highway, where snow was said to impact travel across parts of the SCV and Antelope Valley.

Chain restrictions were imposed Wednesday on some back-country roads near Agua Dulce and Acton.

The 0.06 inch of rain that fell Wednesday on the SCV left wet road conditions that may have been a factor in at least two traffic collisions that hampered midday travel in or near the SCV, such as the two-truck bang-up that briefly blocked the truck lanes on the southbound side of Interstate 5, or a vehicle rollover that occurred on a Highway 14 on-ramp near Via Princessa Drive.

Further, CHP officers assigned to the Newhall Station said two cars spun out and crashed on the northbound 14 approaching Agua Dulce Canyon Road at about 12:45 p.m. Snow was reported as a partial cause, one of the officers said.

Numerous other vehicle collisions and accidents were reported across the county before 3 p.m.

“It’s just been crazy here,” a county Fire Department dispatcher said.

Clear and sunny skies are due to return today, with highs back to the 70s. Gusts will continue today.
