Strickland takes the lead in Senate results

Republican Tony Strickland edged past Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson in the 19th District state Senate race Friday.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Strickland led his challenger by 1,560 votes, according to the Secretary of State's Web site.

The site posted the 50.3 percent to 49.7 percent spread Friday, but election results will not be certified until Dec. 2.

Jackson was an advocate for improving public education, increasing public safety, protecting the environment, improving access to health care and protecting the rights of consumers.

Strickland was an advocate for consumer protection, fiscal reform, a reduction on foreign oil dependence and education.
