On page C2 of the sports section on Oct. 25, the story begins, "Several key games took place Friday evening as Valencia, Saugus, and Canyon picked up Foothill League victories."

Like the papers in Truman's day, perhaps the sports editors at The Signal had already given Hart up for dead after a dismal opening to its 2008 season. Had the epitaph already been written so as not to push a late deadline, catching the paper with egg on its face?

Sure, it takes a little of the shine off an otherwise magnificent effort by the Indians, and probably rubs a bit of salt into Canyon's very fresh wounds, but we'll take the "W" instead of the recognition any day.
