Relatives of an “estranged” pensioner killed in a traffic collision last Friday are reeling this week over news of her death.

According to a relative, Diandra K. Doane, 65, had wandered the streets around the Santa Clarita Valley for several years, spotted occasionally by relatives who never fully understood why she behaved the way she did.

“She was estranged from the family,” said Kristen Christensen, identifying Doane as her husband’s aunt.

“She just didn’t talk to anybody anymore,” she said.

Relatives would spot her “here and there” but Doane chose to keep to herself.

“She’s (been) missing in action for years. We’ve seen sightings of her — but to hear that she died in a hit-and-run — I’m in shock.”

On Wednesday, officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner identified Doane as the woman killed in Friday’s traffic collision on Orchard Village Road.

The woman lived for a while in Saugus, in the area of Bouquet Canyon Road and Haskell Canyon Road.

According to Christensen, Doane was “very beautiful, eccentric” and “obsessed with walking.”

Doane, who has sisters reportedly living in Tehachapi, also has relatives living in the Santa Clarita Valley, including Christensen’s husband.

“My mother-in-law’s sister got a call, and she was hysterical, crying,” she said. “As for my husband, I think it’s still registering.”

What has Christensen “freaked” more than anything else, is that she drove by the fatal accident Friday night not knowing who was involved.

“We were driving, and I saw the police had closed off the road,” she said. “And we knew someone had died there.”

Jonathan Anker, 68, is charged with hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

He is expected to appear in court later this month.
