The Castaic Lake Water Agency will host a beginning Smart Gardening Workshop this Saturday, Feb. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the agency's facilities at 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus, CA 91350 (above Central Park).

Beginning workshops provide hands-on instruction on composting, worm composting, grass recycling and water-wise and fire-wise gardening. Residents can purchase a backyard or worm composting bin at a discount at certain workshops, including the Feb. 11 one in Santa Clarita.

Backyard composting bins are $40 each. Limit two bins per household. Worm composting bins are $65 each, and this includes one-half pound of worms. Limit two bins per household. Cash or check only. Price is subject to change.

Additionally, there will be an advanced Smart Gardening workshop held at the same location on May 5.
