Jason Gore hasn’t played an official round of golf yet this year in a PGA tournament, but his expectations are on the rise.

On Wednesday, the Hart High graduate was named the No. 1 Nationwide Tour “player to watch” on the PGATour.com’s Top 20 list.

The article previewing the 2012 season for Gore mentioned his seven Nationwide tournament victories and his multiple successful stints on the PGA Tour.

Gore’s most recent Nationwide win was the Miccosukee Championship in Florida in October 2010.

Last year, Gore played just 10 Nationwide events and made five cuts while also playing six PGA Tour events and making three cuts.

His season was cut short by a shoulder injury, which eventually required surgery and kept him off the golf course for three months in the middle of the year.

Gore finished the year strong and lost a substantial amount of weight, two reasons cited by the article for his high expectations.

It went on to say Gore is a strong candidate for a “battlefield promotion” to the PGA Tour. That means if he wins three Nationwide tournaments this year, he’ll automatically step up to the PGA Tour in 2013.

Gore’s season will begin on Feb. 16 when he takes part in the Northern Trust Open in Pacific Palisades.
