The Valencia Library is fine the way it is

I have read the letters that have been written to the editor about the Valencia Library and have to say that Nancy Chaffin ("Valencia Library is fine just as it is," Nov. 8), who wrote that the library is fine the way it is, is completely correct.

I happen to be an employee at the library and would like Jenna Myers, who wrote saying we need an update, to know a few things (Please upgrade the Valencia Library," Nov. 6).

We are a library, not a bookstore. We do not sell books, games, calendars or anything else.

We are a place for people come to study, or research or check items out free of cost for their own pleasure.

The library is not a place to go hang out and drink Starbucks.

I am not quite sure what she found unappealing about the library, but the staff are all very friendly and are willing to help anyone who asks.

We cannot just remodel the Valencia Library, for one reason because I know that we are the busiest library in the county system.

The reason the Newhall Library is being moved to a new location is because it is very small and has been in its current location since 1957.

Not only can you check out books, CDs and movies, you can also use one of the 10 Internet computers; view government publications; view old newspapers on microfilm or microfiche and you can even get a passport.

We also have many programs available for children and adults.

So I suggest that you ignore whatever you may find unappealing about the library and just come in and check us out. You may just change your mind.

Lastly, just because I work at the library does not mean that my views are biased. I have been going to the library for many years and have always viewed the library the same way.
