The Valley Industrial Association will host student teams presenting winning business projects at the next Valley Industrial Association luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hyatt Valencia.

The students are from the top three placing teams of the 2008 VIA Students Teaming to Achieve Results program, a product development contest that partners local kindergarten through 12th grade student teams with Santa Clarita Valley businesses.

Teams consisted of three to five students and each team was paired with a teacher coach and participating business partner. Over a two-month period, teams researched, brainstormed and designed a new product or service for their host business, drafted a business plan to build and market the product, and presented their completed project to the host company as well as a panel of judges.

Teams were judged based on business vision, mission, objectives, strategies and plans. Additional judging criteria included the planning process, presentation, use of resources and business evaluation. Each year VIA sponsors the STAR program to give students a link to the business world.

The business luncheon is open to the public. Cost is $40 for VIA members and $50 for non-members.

Reservations should be received by today, and can be made by calling VIA at (661) 294-8088 or by visiting www.via.org.
