After six weeks of investigation, the California Highway Patrol completed its investigation of the Jan. 18 fatal crash involving a Santa Clarita Valley Transit bus in Stevenson Ranch. Per the report, the CHP recommended that the Los Angeles County District Attorney file felony vehicular manslaughter charges against the bus driver, David Delape, 49.

According to CHP officer John Lutz, the investigation was complete and forwarded to the District Attorney's office on Monday morning. While he could not share details about the report, he did say the report was sent to them for a reason.

"When we send them a report like this, it has a purpose," Lutz said. "The report is complete and the District Attorney will now handle all issues concerning this matter."

Sandra Gibbons of the District Attorney's office stated that they have not made a decision whether felony charges will actually be filed.

"We have not made a filing decision yet," said Gibbons. "We've requested some additional information from investigators and will make a decision after our review."

The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of The Old Road and Constitution Avenue in Stevenson Ranch, when Delape collided with Janine Doughlin, 25, who was driving a Toyota Camry. Doughlin died at the scene.
