A fire at a motocross track just east of Piru is contained and almost extinguished, a fire official said.

A foam pit at the motocross track ignited and sent black smoke spewing into the air. The plume was visible in the Santa Clarita Valley, Inspector Sam Padilla said.

Los Angeles County and Ventura County fire departments responded to initial reports of an oil field fire. Those reports proved to be inaccurate, said Bill Nash, Ventura County Fire Department spokesman.

The fire was contained as of 10:50 p.m. and firefighters were close to extinguishing the blaze, Nash said.

Ventura County fire will begin an investigation today and more information may be available later today, Nash said.
