The skate park at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex closes Monday, giving skaters until Sunday to use the park.

To mark the closure, the city hosts "The Wake" from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the park, giving skaters a chance to show off their moves and be judged by sponsors.

The park is closing to make way for construction of a state-of-the-art park that will include large bowls, a street plaza and a snake run.

The new park is expected to open in spring 2009.

The Sports Complex is located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway in Canyon Country.
