ESCAPE Children’s Theatre will present an original musical production of “Alice in Wonderland”  Feb, 3-5 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the Valencia campus at College of the Canyons.

More than 250 youth and teens from the Santa Clarita Valley will perform on stage for six productions of the show.

This original production is a newly adapted version of the familiar children’s story.

Many of the widely known classic scenes of the story — such as Alice’s encounters with the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts — are included in the show.

The musical also includes an original musical score and many new friends  who Alice meets on her trip to Wonderland.

Additional characters include Flowers, Bumble Bees, Lady Bugs, Weeds, Spiders and many others who join Alice on her travels to find the Queen.

The ESCAPE show includes a live orchestra, elaborate costumes, projections, sets and props.

All 250 cast members have been rehearsing since mid-September to prepare for this production, said Nancy Troxell, ESCAPE publicity chairwoman.

There are two separate casts for the shows, with each cast performing in three shows.

“Alice in Wonderland” is a family-friendly production for all ages, said Troxell.

Elizabeth Burson serves as artistic and musical director, Kyle Burson is show director and set designer. Choreographer is Donna Herbst. Assistant directors are Barry Kemper and Leesa Veluzat.

ESCAPE Theatre was founded by Elizabeth and Kyle Burson in October, 2002, at Mitchell Elementary School in Canyon Country.

The ESCAPE program has grown to include two major productions each year, with more than 250 youth and teens appearing in each show, a summer musical for teens, a Summer Broadway workshop camp for youth and the Holiday Dinner Theatre event every December.

Tickets are available for shows to be held 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5.

Sunday evening at 7 p.m., is grandparents night and a special post-Super Bowl performance. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.  Seniors are age 60 and over and students are age 18 and under.
