Santa Clarita Planning Commissioners will look at taking the first step in processing a request to annex the Hasley Hills portion of Castaic at their Tuesday meeting.

The City Council in January gave the city the green light to process the application to annex a 1,500-home area of Castaic that includes the Hasley Hills, Live Oak and North Bluff communities, as well as the Valencia Commerce Center.

The Planning Commission will consider the city's request to open the public hearing and change the zoning for the area.

In April of 2007, members of the Castaic Annexation Support Team submitted signatures of support from 72 percent of the residents and business owners in the 1,433-acre area.

West side town council members have asked the city to hold off on processing the application until residents are able to review the results of two studies that would help determine which of the following options would be the most beneficial for the west side communities: Incorporating into one west side city, remaining unincorporated or annexing into the city of Santa Clarita.

Before the annexation request becomes final, the City Council would have to authorize the city to submit an application to the county Local Agency Formation Commission.

It is estimated that LAFCO would take about six to 12 months to process the application.
