Members of the governing and foundation boards of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley recently gathered at the Club’s central facility in Newhall for a recognition luncheon.

Numerous individuals and businesses were recognized for their support and contributions to the Boys & Girls Club of SCV.

Anna Ott and Tom Dierckman were acknowledged for their Board Member of the Decade awards.

Named Board Members of the Year were Diane Fiero of College of the Canyons, for her involvement in evaluating a new potential Club site in Castaic and Michael Niles of Great Day Advertising, for his leadership with the marketing team.

Two special awards were presented during event.

“So many people did so much for the club that it was hard to choose just one this year,” said Gary Condie, president of the Boys & Girls Club Foundation.

 Evans & Sons was recognized for coming to the rescue and assisting in the repair of the club after a flood occurred at the Newhall clubhouse. 

Westfield Valencia Town Center was recognized for being the host and partner for the 2011 Festival of Trees.

Jacqulyn and W. Harold Petersen earned the Sam Dixon Award for contributing to the flood remodeling of the Newhall club.

Bonnie Rabjohn, president of Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, was on hand to accept  a certificate of appreciation for providing costumed characters at the annual Day for Kids event.

The Tony Newhall Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Brian and Jaci Hoffman for their long-time involvement with Festival of Trees, as well as the annual magic shows and ongoing marketing efforts.

All event committee chairs were recognized for their leadership, including Tony and Reena Newhall for the annual Benefit Auction, Lou Suarez for his work on the annual golf tournament and Karen and Todd Stevens for chairing Festival of Trees.

Elizabeth Hopp assumed the gavel of president of the governing board from Alan Lyon.

Foundation Board President Gary Condie gave special recognition to staff members Ronda Chobanian and Teresa Glavin-Kline for all they do for the Boys & Girls Club.
