We want to read more marching band stories

We enjoyed the article on Nov. 2 about the Hart High-sponsored Rampage competition, but many readers would appreciate regular coverage of the marching season for all local school bands.

Hundreds of SCV students participate in school band programs. The band experience at the high school level is as challenging and exciting to the students, relatives and friends as any sports program.

They practice during the summer marching for hours in the sun and spend countless hours working hard to master both the intricate field show drills and memorizing pages of music.

Saugus High School competed over the past three weekends at Royal High School and Simi Valley High School, as well as in Rampage.

At Royal, Saugus was awarded first place for both Band and Auxiliary in their division. For the Simi Valley competition, we were thrilled to see the Centurions take sweepstakes for both the Band and Auxiliary.
Sweepstakes is the grand prize presented to the Band and Auxiliary that place first overall, not just in their division. At Rampage, Saugus again won the first place awards for Band and Auxiliary.
West Ranch won the sweepstakes awards; Valencia and Canyon High both won awards in their divisions.

That adds up to a lot of kids, family, friends and fans who would love to see some recognition in The Signal.

Marching band season begins with summer band camps. The bands play at home football games on Fridays, and competitions run most every Saturday from October until the invitation-only championships.

These students put so much time and effort into band to achieve great results.

Please devote a little more space in your paper to recognize one of the best programs you'll find in public schools today.
