Kevin and Sandy Parkes, of Newhall, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Jennifer Parkes to Matthew Ott, son of Ken and Mary Lou Ott, of Louisville, Colo.

The bride-elect is a 2002 graduate of William S. Hart High School in Newhall, where she played basketball, softball and golf. She was a member of the first triple-peat Foothill League girl’s golf team. She graduated with honors in 2007 from California State University, Sacramento with a degree in Liberal Studies and played on the women’s golf team.

 She is an avid volunteer and loves to help her community. She is co-chair of Young Leaders Society, United Way of Santa Barbara County, mentors a fourth grader through the Fighting Back Mentor program, tutors children in reading and math with Partners in Education, is an ambassador for the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce and participates in evaluating nonprofit, grant requests with Venoco’s Community Partnership.

 The groom-elect is a 2004 graduate of Monarch High School in Louisville, Colo. where he was a four-year letterman in football and academics and a three-year letterman in baseball. He was on the All-State football team for two years and won the Colorado State Championship his junior year. After graduating 10th in his class with a 4.1 GPA, he graduated with honors from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering and an ASI in Business and Economics. While attending college, he played one year of football and two years of baseball.  

 The groom-elect moved to Santa Barbara in June 2008 and started working with Venoco Inc. in Carpinteria where he met the bride-elect.

They were engaged on March 16, 2011, at sunset on the beach in Carpinteria, near Santa Barbara.

The couple is planning a Sept. 22 wedding in Santa Barbara.
