Symphony celebrates anniversary
The Santa Clarita Symphony celebrates its 5-year anniversary with a classical and jazz performance at 8 p.m. Saturday, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center. “An Evening with Bryan Pezzone and Friends” features crossover classical and jazz music in an improvisational style. Hikers lose way in Mentryville
Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue were sent after two hikers stuck on a ridge in Mentryville on Saturday night. The hikers called the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station and said they were stuck at about 5:30 p.m., according to Lt. Tom Bryski.

$54K at jog-a-thon
Oak Hills Elementary School finished its Jog-a-Thon fundraiser with a grand total of $54,637, far exceeding the goal of $50,000. The Jog-a-Thon event was on Oct. 17 and was followed by the Magic Show Oct. 25.

Dog Whisperer sets book signing
Cesar Millan, otherwise known as the famous “Dog Whisperer,” will be at Barnes & Noble of Valencia at 7 p.m. on Monday. His visit to the store surrounds his new book, “A Member of the Family: Cesar Millan’s Guide to a Lifetime of Fulfillment With Your Dog.”

Investment seminar planned

Authors gather for fundraiser
The Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation presents an event featuring authors Mara Purl, Selden Edwards, Cathy Silvers, Josh Conviser and Harley Jane Kozak on Saturday at the Salt Creek Grille in Valencia. Appetizers, beverages, books sales and signings will be provided. The price is $40 per ticket and $125 per table of four. Limited seating is available. COC lecture centers on book
In celebration of Book of the Year “The Kite Runner,” COC history professor Sarah Burns will lecture on the history of Afghanistan from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the college library, Room 206. Barnes and Nobel will host a kick-off party from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 23630 Valencia Blvd.

ShakeOut slated
The city of Santa Clarita will participate in the annual ShakeOut Drill at 10 a.m. Thursday. The drop-cover-and-hold drill, planned as the largest in United States history, will be hosted by Mayor Bob Kellar on KHTS AM 1220.
