The seventh annual Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival will take place this weekend, Jan. 6-8, at the Repertory East Playhouse in Old Town Newhall (24266 Main Street). Several film blocks include works submitted by CalArts students and alumni, offering festival attendees a chance to enjoy independent films by some of the world's best artists.
This year's event includes films in a variety of genres, from comedy and drama to animation and shorts. The festival will also feature films by local, regional and national youth in the junior high and high school screening categories.
The Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, Jan. 8, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and includes awards in the following categories: Best Script 2 Screen Film, Best Junior High Film, Best High School Film, Best College Film, Best Animated Film, and Best Short Film.
Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival tickets can be purchased at the door and seating is on a first come, first served basis. Daily tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and provide admission to all screenings in a day.
The Santa Clarita Valley Film Festival is dedicated to providing opportunities for interactions that enrich the Los Angeles and Santa Clarita communities both artistically and culturally through independent film. The event is sponsored, in-part, by Gorilla Software, KinoFlo, LA 411, SCVTV, the City of Santa Clarita, Final Draft, the Santa Clarita Valley Film Office, and the Repertory East Playhouse.
