It’s here. The new year. What are your New Year’s resolutions? I’ve been thinking long and hard of what I wish to accomplish in the new year. I’m still trying to find time to take yoga lessons. I’d also like to plant a vegetable garden this year. I think those two are enough! I don’t think I want to get too ambitious with my New Year’s resolutions.

Something different to start the new year

Here’s an interesting way to start off the new year. A traditional Japanese tea ceremony, “The Embodiment of Spirit, Beauty, and Ritual” will be held 3-6 p.m. Jan. 18 at the SCV Senior Center, 22900 Market St., Newhall. This free event is an experience of historical background, narration and authentic presentation and will be performed by Shuko Nielsen. Info: Robin Clough 661-259-9444 ext. 110, rclough@scvsc.org.

SCV Chamber of Commerce Installation

The 88th annual SCV Chamber of Commerce Installation Dinner will celebrate and present awards to Chamber members as well as announce the incoming board of directors. The theme is 007 Monte Carlo Casino Night complete with casino
gaming and dancing. The event will be held 6 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. Tickets are $85 per person.

Tables are $850 each. Contact: info@scvchamber.com.

An ‘Evening with Anthony Bourdain’

Spend an evening with renowned executive chief, author and internationally-known TV personality, Anthony Bourdain from the popular Travel Channel TV show, “No Reservations.” Bourdain brings a blend of global travel, culinary knowledge and candidness to the stage as he recounts stories from a career that has taken him from New York to Beirut to Taiwan and just about everywhere in between. Bourdain will appear at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, 8 p.m. Feb. 9. Tickets: $85, $70, $55. For info call (661) 362-5304 or visit www.canyonspac.com.

‘Wartime Romance’ in the SCV

The musical “Wartime Romance” — written and produced by Newhall resident Marilyn Hackett — will be performed April 28 to benefit Single Mothers Outreach and the Santa Clarita homeless shelter — A Bridge to Home. Premiere Orchestra

Seats are available for this Gala event and include a Canteen dinner decorated in vintage 1940’s style. Tickets and show information are available at www.wartimeromance.com  with  a direct link to each  non-profit website for ticket purchase.

Buy tickets now to benefit the organization of your choice. “Wartime Romance” was born in the SCV in 2006 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center with the help of Santa Clarita Valley Arts Grants and Galpin  Motors.
