As a conservative, right-wing capitalist, my vote here in the great state of California matters very little in federal and state general elections, so I take a greater interest in our local stuff, mostly for the entertainment value.
On Dec. 23, a letter to the editor caught my attention, “Patricia McKeon has no relevant experience,” from Ryan Hubbard, one of many anti-Patricia McKeon letters and columns in the Signal lately. Well, I couldnt agree more, so I read on.
The letter writer is a longtime resident, as am I. But even though I would normally vote for the most conservative, the McKeons are hacks, and represent everything wrong with politics, including incompetence and nepotism.
But to suggest her response to debate Scott Wilk was most likely written by Bob Haueter (or anyone else), and demand the Mighty Signal investigate without the slightest proof is absolutely ridiculous.
Then, in paragraph six or so, the paranoia becomes clear, Hubbard admits to being a lifelong Democrat. It is very true our state is in a crisis, but not from the influence, or lack thereof, from Howard “Buck” McKeon, who affects 0.06 percent of Los Angeles County, but more from the Democrats you have most likely supported over the years, such as Gov. Jerry Brown, Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, Sen. Barbara Boxer, Los Angeles Mayor Tony Villaraigosa, public unions, prison guards, teachers unions — it goes on and on.
So, please save some of your self-righteous indignation for those folks truly responsible.
