Blessed Kateri Director Michael Santomauro, left, and Anthony Enzo Seddio show off their jacket donations as part of a recent drive at the local Catholic church.

It started when Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Parish facilitator Janette Seddio challenged her nine Confirmation Level

One class teenagers to donate any of their unwanted jackets to Help The Children, a local nonprofit organization that helps families in need.

In a matter of time, the nine teenage students brought in 17 jackets.

Impressed by the donations, Seddio challenged all 100 Confirmation Level One class students at the local Catholic church to see how many donations they could gather.

The movement soon picked up friendly competition as fellow Blessed Kateri Confirmation Coordinator Jennifer Schmid challenged all 100 of her Confirmation Level Two class students to bring in a jacket in the name of helping local kids in need.

In a matter of weeks, Blessed Kateri collected 289 jackets to donate to Help The Children, which has helped more than 5,000 local families over the last nine years.

“The winner is Help The Children and all the Santa Clarita families that will be warm because of the generosity of a simple gesture of bringing in a jacket that the teens no longer wear or doesn’t fit,” Seddio said.
