Sears posted 80 of the 100 to 120 stores it will be closing as a result of the poor performance of the company’s overall retail sales, particularly during the 2011 holiday season where store sales fell below 2010 numbers.

Locally in Santa Clarita, no stores are slated for closure on the first round of closures announced.

Only three California Sears stores are on the list; two in the San Diego area and one in El Monte.

No Kmart stores in California were on the list posted by the Sears Holding company.

The company said it could not provide job loss totals but that a typical store employs between 40 and 80 people.
