Is it possible that Christmas is only a week away? It’s nice to see the weather cooperate for once and give us a small taste of the “season.”

Pepsi grant for Yes I Can program

The Summer Meltdown Social Inclusion Concert is a collaborative effort of the Yes I Can Programs from the William S. Hart Union School District (primarily Golden Valley and Canyon High Schools).

It is an event 180 days in the making, produced by more than 100 students of various ability levels and promoted to more than 18,000 junior high and high school students, as well as the community of Santa Clarita. The eighth annual Summer Meltdown will be held May 21 at the Golden Valley High School Outdoor Amphitheater.

They are currently seeking a $50,000 Pepsi grant. To vote, visit http://pep.si/v9K9ic. They are very close to earning the grant so every vote does count.

Free concert

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will host a free public concert “A Midnight Clear” at 7 p.m. tonight at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 24443 McBean Parkway, Valencia.

The concert will feature a 125-voice choir, with youth choir and 35-piece orchestra. The performance will include a variety of Christmas music.

The spirit of the season

There is so much need and so much want, but one organization that really needs your help now, and I mean now (if you are feeling the “spirit of the season”) is the SCV Youth Project. This is an amazing organization that helps many, many troubled teens in the SCV. I know there are so many worthwhile organizations in the SCV, but this is an organization that saves lives. If you can open up your wallet just a bit during the holidays, send donations to SCV Youth Project, PO Box 801982, Santa Clarita, CA 91380-1982. To donate by credit card, visit www.helpnothassle.org and click on the donate now button.
