"We've known all along that Runner was a shoo-in," Lynn Vakay said Tuesday night at local Republican headquarters, where she was the director.
"Runner represents everything I believe in. He's godly and consisent on how he votes and what he supports."
Runner was challenged for his 17th District state Senate seat by Bruce McFarland, a local Democratic activist. But McFarland did not run an aggressive campaign.
"It would have been very hard to win," McFarland admitted. "I didn't want George Runner to run unopposed."
McFarland's bid to unseat the uncumbent won praise from Jonathan Kraut, president of the Democratic Club of SCV.
"He made a valiant effort to break the consortium of the old politics and the people they represent," Kraut said.
Runner was elected in 2004 to the Senate, representing much of the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys.
He is also the author of the Amber Alert in California.
