Veterans Day breakfast Thursday
Canyon Springs Community School hosts its second annual Veterans Day celebration at 7:50 a.m. Thursday. The school is located at 19059 Vicci Street in Canyon Country. The Student Affairs Organization will award medals of citizenship to Mayor Bob Kellar and 13 other veterans. Breakfast will be served in the library from 7:20 to 7:40 a.m.

Parent Academy night at Valencia High School
Valencia High School hosts "Parent Academy" from 7 to 8:35 p.m. on Thursday. Dr. Shannon Hanrahan will kick off the evening with a keynote address from 7 to 7:35 p.m. Parents can choose between two breakout sessions from 7:35 to 8:35 p.m. One discusses the emotional and social issues of adolescents while the second topic allows parents to discuss how to improve communication between parents and school staff. Child care will be available in the library. Parking is available in the staff lot on the north end of campus.
Valencia High School is located at 27801 Dickason Drive.

Open house at Legacy Academy
Legacy Christian Academy will host an open house for parents of prospective kindergartners for the 2009-10 school year from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at 27680 Dickason Drive in Valencia. The academy will host an open house for prospective junior high parents from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the same address. Call (661) 257-7377 for more information.

Time to hold'em or fold'em
The Mike Gunning Memorial Fund will host a Texas Hold'em Tournament at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Valencia Hyatt. Players can register between 5:30-6:15 p.m. All attendees will enjoy appetizers, cash bar, 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. Registration is $100 for individual players. Non-player entry is $50.
