John Heys, CEO of Heys Plumbing is set to be the roastee at the 14th annual Elks Lodge Roast to benefit Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers.

The roast will be held Jan. 21 at the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge in Canyon Country.

Founder of the benefit roast is City Councilman Bob Kellar. Kellar and Elks Roast Chairman Mike Fisher said they were looking for a plumber because they wanted a roastee who had a lot of money. Attorneys were considered but they don’t make as much money as plumbers.

Heys will be roasted by four of his dearest (former) friends at this annual signature event, which includes dinner and a live auction.

Ed Bolden, president of the Samuel Dixon board of directors said the health centers are pleased to have the support of the Elks.

“We are so fortunate to have the support of the Elks and such good-hearted people as John Heys,” Bolden said. “This event helps Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers help a lot of people with their health care needs.”

Dixon Family Health Centers operates three health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley — Canyon Country Health Center, Val Verde Health Center and Newhall Health Center — as well as outreach sites at College of the Canyons and California Institute of the Arts. The Centers offer a full range of health care services — immunizations and vaccines, screenings, diagnostic tests, well baby care and family planning. Patients pay based on income. This past year, Samuel Dixon provided service for 11,000 patient visits.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Santa Clarita, Lodge No. 2379, is located at 17766 Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.

The Elks give more scholarships than any other organization except the United States government.

The Elks collect and redistribute more than $10 million annually nationwide through the Elks National Foundation.

In California, Elks Clubs give millions of dollars to disabled children; support hospitalized veterans with clothing and necessities; and host parties throughout the year, as well as donating food baskets to needy families.

For membership information in the Elks call (661) 251-1500.

Tables (seating for 10 per table) for the Heys Roast are priced at $3,000, $1,500 and $1,000. Call Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers at (661) 257-2339, ext. 302, for more information or email amy@sdfhc.org to be put on the e-mail and mailing list.
