Let those who live here make the decisions

An open letter to Dr. John Barstis (Letters, Oct 14, 2008):

Sir, I appreciate your long career as a medical professional and applaude your efforts to continue to support your selection of Roger Seaver, president and CEO of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

I am, however, ashamed that you, who have taken an oath to "do no harm," would so illerately comment on a project that you have not reviewed in depth.

Since you do not live in the SCV, I suppose it's not really of interest to you. Oh, expect that it might get you more "power and limelight" and a cancer center of excellence!

While you may believe that community activists don't have as much expertise as city planners, please be aware that the neighbors and concerned citizens are asking the right questions at the right time.

The goal is to ensure that hospital and medical service expansion are appropriate and well planned for the SCV.

Your derogatory and ill-informed rant against community activists and concerned citizens - patients you have treated - is insulting.

I am ashamed to have used you as my health-care provider. Go back to what you are good at and leave the city planning to those who are better informed and more interested - the people who live here.
