Kennedy plans move to Colorado

The man who helped found Santa Clarita Valley's Economic Development Corporation is moving to Colorado for a chance to be near his grand kids and dip into his bucket list.

Bill Kennedy, Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation and principal in Wingspan Business Consulting, said his plan to move came about when "opportunity met desire."

A number of recent developments all seemed to point to Colorado, he said Thursday.

"It's always been the case for Cathy and me that one day, ultimately, we would be closer to our grand kids,"
Kennedy said about himself and his wife.

The couple did not intend to move for a while, he said, but then a series of events converged to move their planning clock ahead by a few years.

Then one day recently, someone approached Kennedy and told him: "If you're willing to sell your house, we're willing to buy it."

In the current tough real estate market, it doesn't take the chairman of an economic board to see the merit in a proposal like that - an observation with which Kennedy agrees.

So, when his daughter Laura made the trip to Santa Clarita recently with her husband, Jerry, and their two sons Dylan and Lucas, Kennedy and his wife started seriously thinking of change.

"When the kids came to visit us, we had so much fun that weekend that we thought we could do this just about every day if we lived near them," he said.

Considering that Kennedy's term as chairman of the EDC ends this month and his wife is able to retire this year, you have a perfect alignment of indicators, he said.

"When so many variables line up and point in one direction, that's a compelling reason to do something about it," Kennedy said.

The Kennedys plans on moving to Fort Collins, Colorado, this month.

Kennedy plans to keep on working in "semi-retirement" in Colorado.

"Cathy and I can start to work on our bucket list," he said.
