Parent volunteer Lacey O’Connell helps kindergartner Kennedy Thompson, 5, spray whipped cream over teacher Hayley Perez as students help create human sundaes at Leona Cox Community School in Canyon Country on Friday. The school raised $460 for library books in its “One for the Books” challenge, surpassing its $250 goal. Two staff members were originally slated to be turned into human sundaes, but due to the enthusiastic response, one staff member was later added for each additional $50 raised, said principal Betsy Letzo.
