For two weeks, the Plum Canyon Elementary Student Council held a Nickels for Nails collection drive at school to support homes for veterans.

Nickels for Nails is a program run by Habitat for Humanity and the school collection would be used toward SCV Habitat For Heroes.

Habitat For Heroes is specifically designed to address the needs of veterans in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Each day during the event, students were encouraged to bring in spare change to fill paint cans in their classrooms. The money was collected into a single jug located in the office.

Earlier this month during Plum Canyon Elementary School’s flag ceremony, Principal Mary Jane Kelly recognized the 236th Marine Corps Birthday and remembered veterans in time for Veterans Day.

The Student Council event raised more than $2,000 for the Habitat For Heroes program.
