Highlands-Emblem Elementary School held its annual Chalk Festival Nov. 8-10, giving students a way to express themselves artistically.

The Saugus school’s blacktop transformed into a giant canvas as students showed their creativity and self-expression by creating colorful chalk drawings all around the school.

“The Chalk Festival allows the students to release their creativity in a casual, fun setting,” Principal Paul Martinsen said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed walking around these past few days and watching the students at work. Being outdoors and working with chalk sets them free.”

Parents and students alike enjoyed walking around the school’s campus, admiring the art drawn by classmates and friends.

Rain will soon wash the outdoor art gallery away, but the fun of experimenting and creating with a new medium will remain.
