Christian love and common sense

What religion do Prop. 8 supporters adhere to that ignores the commandment to love they neighbor as thyself?

Or that ignores the tenet to do unto others as you would have them do unto you? Does depriving someone of their right to pursue happiness come under a commandment I am unfamiliar with? Has the golden rule been rewritten behind my back?

How does gay marriage possibly concern anyone who is not gay? People who oppose gay marriage do not need to enter into one.

No church will be required to perform a gay marriage unless it chooses to do so in the spirit of love that is supposedly the foundation of the Christian religion. Anybody can enter into a civil marriage, even Christians.

If Christian beliefs are to be a cornerstone of our legal system (violating the separation of church and state) then I want many more religious laws enacted.

Let us go back to selling our daughters into slavery and sacrificing bulls at the altar every Sunday. Oooh, I can hardly wait!

Let men no longer be permitted to cut their hair and, most exciting of all, let’s go back to stoning adulterers. Obviously we want to protect the sanctity of marriage.

With 50 percent of heterosexual marriages ending in divorce, I bet everybody knows someone who could be turned in to the “morality police.”

And, of course, since the churches will now be political forces they will be able to begin paying taxes just like the rest of us do.

Vote no on 8. Let true Christian love prevail. Or common sense.
