God blesses Dems and Indies, too

In 1999 I had a discussion with a good friend of mine in Texas. I asked her, “Who are you going to vote for?” Her reply changed my political path for the rest of my life.

She replied, “I’m voting for George W. Bush. He’s a Christian.”

I asked her, “Isn’t Al Gore a Christian?”

After talking to hundreds of Republicans leading up to our most important presidential election in our history, I’ve come to the conclusion that Republicans will never vote for any other candidate but another Republican.

Before that conversation with Katy I had been a lifelong Democrat. Katy, I thank you. That phone call opened my eyes to how ridiculous it is to vote for a candidate down party lines.

I have been an Independent ever since. Why would anyone chose their president just because he or she is a Christian? What about issues?

To keep blacks from voting during Jim Crow, they would have to take a test that they couldn’t pass. I propose that every American should have to take a test to be eligible to vote.

Questions like, “Can you spell I.Q.?” or, “In case of an emergency, what’s the number to 911?”

I pray to God that Americans vote for the candidate who has run the best campaign, raised the most money (very important in these bad economic times), has the best issues, and most importantly, who will run the good old boys who have destroyed this country straight out of Washington D.C.

By the way, to my Republicans friends, God blesses everything and everybody, even Democrats and Independents.
