There have been several sites proposed for a new Castaic high school. We now have a new proposed site that needs to be fully examined and pass many reviews by local and state agencies.
This is a process that takes months, if not years, to complete. A typical high school requires six to eight years to build from concept to completion.
When Measure V was passed in 2001, many were surprised with the escalation of costs as building contracts were bid years later. I will not vote for a construction bond when we are not ready to start construction.
I also feel that the projections for growth in the Santa Clarita Valley may not be valid, given the alarming change in the housing and economic environment we are currently experiencing. I have no reason to believe that past demographic projections are still valid.
I will be an enthusiastic supporter of a school bond when we are ready for school construction. We aren’t ready now.|
I will vote no on Measure SA.
