Since recorded history began, human society has used marriage as a means to create families which can procreate and protect and train the offspring.

While the ratio of male(s) to female(s) have changed from time to time, the future of the society has always depended on successful marriages.

In modern Western societies tax policy and other laws have favored married couples to encourage strong families. Though some couples cannot or choose not to have children, all citizens have a fundamental right to marry a person of the opposite sex.

The question we are answering today is why the opposite sex. The key is physical.

Neither two men nor two women can produce children or join in the male-female pattern that their bodies are shaped to support. Therefore, neither pair qualifies for marriage.

A judge should not be able to change the definition of this term just because a small number (less than 1 in 30) people have developed an emotional attachment to a member of the same sex.

Vote yes on Proposition 8 and retain the historic meaning of the word “marriage.”
