Just 13 minutes after local sheriff's deputies issued a public plea to help find a gunman considered dangerous, they found their wanted man today.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station deputies posted a bulletin online seeking help in finding 18-year-old William Matthew Garner at 2:52 p.m. today.

At 3:05 p.m. they announced Garner had been arrested.
"Just minutes after the posting of the message outlined below, suspect Garner was apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department," a local deputy reported online.

"Santa Clarita detectives are enroute to Van Nuys to pick him up."

According to deputies, Garner, a resident of Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country, was wanted in connection with a gang-related incident of assault with a deadly weapon.

Deputies responded to a call in the 28300 block of Sand Canyon Road on Nov. 1 and say they found Garner and another man allegedly confronted two other men.

One of the suspects was holding a baseball bat and threatened the two victims while chasing them and swinging the bat at them, deputies said in their initial appeal for the public's help.

At some point during the incident, one of the suspects armed himself with a handgun and fired shots into the air, they said.

The suspect then pointed the handgun at the victims.

The suspects fled on foot, but deputies found one in the area and arrested him.

Garner, however, avoided arrest, they said - until today.
