A Lancaster man was taken to the hospital late Tuesday after a car reportedly ran into the back of a Caltrans truck assigned to "re-stripping" a portion of Highway 14 in the Newhall area, California Patrol Officers said.

James Alex Gonzalez, 53, of Lancaster, suffered bruised ribs and a broken right hand, according to CHP Officer John Lutz, who issued a media release about the collision.

At 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the car driven by Gonzalez identified by CHP as a 2000 Chevrolet Prism rear-ended a Caltrans truck in the southbound lanes of the highway just north of Spring Canyon Road, CHP said.

Gonzalez was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

The driver of the Caltrans vehicle was not injured, CHP said.
