Santa Clarita employers can battle it out in Santa Clarita’s first ever “Best Employers to Work for in the SCV” competition.

“A lot of employers are struggling this season,” said Committee Chairman  Marc Emmer of Optimize Inc. “Organizations are looking for a competitive edge.”

A new partnership of community and business organizations, formed to host the competition, kicked-off the program with a press conference Thursday morning.

“With 40 percent of American workers eligible to retire by 2011, those companies who are positioned as best-in-class employers are going to have a competitive advantage over those who are not,” Emmer said in a press release.

The competition will feature three categories; two winners for each category. Distinctions will be made between companies with 15 to 50 employees, 51 to 100 employees, and more than 101 employees.

There are hundreds of Santa Clarita employers with great benefits, compensation and great working environments, Emmer said.

The competition is also sponsored by the city of Santa Clarita, College of the Canyons, KHTS, Newleaf Training and Development, The Signal, The SCV Chamber of Commerce, and Wildcat Technologies. Presenters have permission to compete in the competition, but will not judging.

Participating employers will be evaluated by a panel of experts on work-life balance, opportunities for employee growth, compensation and benefits, training and development and company culture.

“I also think we’re going to have a lot of fun with this,” Emmer said. Competitions like this have been successful in other thriving cities, he said.

Employers can apply, for free, and learn more about the competition at www.bestinscv.com. Awards will be presented in May 2009.
