Congregation Beth Shalom of Santa Clarita will present Grammy Award-winning contemporary Jewish singer, songwriter and composer Doug Cotler at 3 p.m. Nov. 9.

“We are thrilled to have Doug come to Santa Clarita,” said Gary Jacobs, vice president of communications for the congregation. “This will be the first of our Distinguished Performance Series events, an offshoot of our successful Distinguished Speaker Series, which has brought such programs as actor/director/artist Leonard Nimoy, Dr. Judea Pearl, father of murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl and the founder of the Daniel Pearl Foundation and radio talk show personality Dennis Prager.”

The event will be a family-friendly, sing-along type performance, according to Jacobs. “We are looking to having a lot of fun that afternoon,” he said.

The event also serves as a fundraiser to benefit the congregation’s Early Childhood Education Center, religious school and synagogue. Canter Beth Wasserman Rosenfeld and the teachers at Beth Shalom have been practicing Cotler’s songs in their classes in preparation.

Cotler has recorded six original Jewish music albums. He was awarded a 1984 Grammy for writing “Manhunt,” a song featured in the “Flashdance” album and movie, according to information provided by the congregation.
The artist’s interpretations of liturgy, as well as insightful and humorous songs about Jewish events and heroes have placed him in the forefront of contemporary Jewish music, according to information provided by Jacobs.

Advance ticket prices are $25 per adult and $18 per child (ages 2 to 17). Tickets sold at the door are $30 for adults and $23 for children.

Also available, in limited quantities, is a VIP Patron Package including best reserved seating, an autographed Doug Cotler CD and an exclusive post-show reception attended by Cotler. VIP tickets are $75 for adults; children of adults free with two paid adult VIP tickets.
