Hart quarterback Connor Wingenroth (10) evades the tackle of West Ranch’s Gabe Peralta on Thursday at Valencia High School. Hart won the game 42-34.

If Hart High is headed to the playoffs, it might be going in as one of the more dangerous offensive teams.

Led by a 23-for-32, 325-yard, three-touchdown performance through the air by quarterback Connor Wingenroth, the Indians held off West Ranch 42-34 on Thursday night at Valencia High School.

Wingenroth also rushed for 78 yards and scored two rushing scores, meaning he took part in all five of Hart’s touchdowns.
Hart (7-3, 3-2) now has a good shot for at least an at-large bid into the CIF-Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.

Despite Wingenroth’s surgical performance in the first half — during which he threw all three of his touchdowns and 270 of his yards — a handful of big plays kept the Wildcats (5-5, 1-4) in the game.

The Indians scored on all six of their first-half possessions, including four touchdowns, a two-point conversion and two Rhett Almond field goals.

Trenton Irwin caught two touchdown passes on plays of 57 and 5 yards and Tim White added a 32-yard scoring catch.

The Wildcats responded with a 77-yard touchdown by Jeff Coprich and an 82-yard run by Zahr Lyttle to go into halftime down 35-21.

Coprich finished with 10 carries for 150 yards.

West Ranch scored with 5:10 to play, but failed a two-point try to make it a 35-34 game.

A 6-yard Wingenroth touchdown run sealed it for Hart on the ensuing drive with 45 seconds to play.
