Viking girls clinch league

Prep Girls Tennis
Valencia 18, Canyon 0

After a two-week injury layoff, Valencia No. 1 singles tennis player Isabella Fraczek returned to the courts
Thursday, after a two-week injury layoff and swept for the Vikings 6-2, 6-1, 6-0.
Co-captain and senior No. 2 Thalia Wilczynski swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3 Shin Jae Kim added another singles sweep, 6-0, 6-4, 6-4 to make it a perfect day for the Vikings singles lineup over Canyon's Nicole Smith, Chika Kondo and Traci Okihara.
On the doubles side, the Vikings' No. 1 doubles team of Emily Fraczek and Amanda Jansson swept and won 6-0, 6-1.
Number 2 doubles Clarice Fraczek and Eunice Pack swept 6-1, 6-0. Chelsie Dietz and Andrea Zammit added two more sets, before being subbed 6-2, 6-0.

Saugus 14, Golden Valley 4
Emily Wilson of Saugus won two sets 6-1, 6-2, Yumi Suh of Saugus won two sets 6-3, 6-1 and the Centurions beat the Grizzlies. Saugus' Kristina Cox won 6-2.
Rachel Ho of Golden Valley won three sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 Grizzly Kristine Tan of Golden Valley won 6-4.
Saugus doubles players Rachel Marucut and Bea Araujo won 6-0, 7-5, 6-0. Christina Callas and Megan Soucy, with Sarah Theroux subbing in, won three sets 6-1, 6-3, 6-1.
Pilar Araujo and Mariah Aguinaldo, with Christine Nguyen as a sub, won 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

Prep Girls Volleyball
Saugus 3, Golden Valley 0
Katie Estes
had a baker's dozen with 12 kills and 12 digs on Thursday, as Jaclyn Clark made nine kills.
Taylor Schubert added seven kills. Alyssa Terwall dished out 32 assists.
The Centurions are 5-3 in the Foothill League and are in third place (19-4). The top three in league qualify for the CIF-SS Division I-A Girls Volleyball Tournament.

West Ranch 3, Hart 1
West Ranch stayed hot in Foothill League play on Thursday, beating Hart, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17.
Indians hitter Casey David doubled up for 12 kills and 11 assists.
Molly King added 15 assists.
Jennie Long put up six kills.

College Men's Soccer
The Master's 5, Hope International 0

Dominating from start to finish, The Master's College ran over Hope International on Wednesday, in a 5-0 rout in Golden State Athletic Conference action.
Fabio Joaquim scored two goals, both within a six-minute span toward the end of the game. Tyler Salvey scored on an unassisted goal in the 60th.
The Mustangs are 5-1-3 in conference (10-1-4 overall).

Prep JV Volleyball
Valencia 2, Hart 0

Valencia beat Hart, 25-18, 25-17, in Foothill League JV action.
Kim Henderson finished with 10 kills, while Sydney Striff served eight aces.

Prep Freshman Football
Canyon 41, West Ranch 0

Shawn Hattlestad rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns for Canyon (5-1-1). Jonathan Jerozal, Felipe Herrera, Ken Quitezis and Brenon Diaz-Berriga each scored one touchdown. Robert Cooper made seven tackles.

Manlastas steps down

West Ranch girls head basketball coach Ron Manalastas has resigned from the Wildcats program.
Manalastas relinquished his role at the helm of the girls team last week.
"We are grateful for the 15 years of coaching that he provided to students in the William S. Hart Union High School District and we wish him well," said West Ranch Athletic Director Dody Garcia.
Last season, the Wildcats finished with a 1-9 record in the Foothill League (12-15 overall).
The team's only win in league came in a 66-64 win over Golden Valley.
Garcia said West Ranch is currently seeking an interim head girls' basketball coach and will be interviewing in the coming weeks.
The Wildcats 2009 season kicks off on Jan. 13 against Canyon High.
