A Reseda man seriously injured in a crash Tuesday with a big rig tractor trailer in Castaic was improving at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wilson A. Ambrocio, of Reseda, was listed in serious condition at the hospital, upgraded from critical condition reported earlier that afternoon.

Ambrocio was identified as the driver of a 2008 Scion that collided with a big rig.

At 3:15 a.m., the Scion was allegedly driven through a red light and collided with the back of a big rig tractor-trailer at the intersection of Highway 126 and Commerce Center Drive, said Sgt. Jeff Ferber of the California Highway Patrol.

Ambrocio was taken to the hospital with major injuries, he said.

One of two passengers in the Scion was also taken to the hospital, but a spokeswoman said he was not listed as a patient there.

The Scion was southbound on Commerce Center Drive when the driver failed to stop, Ferber said,

The truck driver was westbound, driving through the intersection on a green light, when his big rig was hit on the right side, Ferber said.

The truck driver suffered no apparent injury.

The westbound lanes of the highway were shut down for more than 90 minutes as crews worked to remove the big rig.
