Hart High School is celebrating the holidays early this year by mounting a production of Frank Capra’s classic story “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the school auditorium Nov. 9 through 12 at 7 p.m.

The script has been adapted from the Capra screenplay by theater arts director Brent Christensen and tells the story of George Bailey.

Christensen said he selected the play because it relates to present-day issues.

“It’s about people struggling against greed,” he said. “It’s about sacrifice, family, community and the power of community to overcome  overpowering odds by coming together in a common solution.

“I thought about the recession and the mortgage meltdown in our country today and the image of Old Man Potter sticks clearly in my mind,” he said.

The cast for the show are the students of Christensen’s advanced drama class, which he says is the youngest group of actors he’s worked with at Hart.

Among the cast members are: George Bailey (Jake Turpin), Clarence the Angel (Steve Elias), and Old Man Potter (J.P. Herrera). Katelyn Ferguson, president of the school drama club, will play Mary Bailey.

The ensemble includes: Marie-Claire Erdynast, Cole Ford, Danielle Honeyman, Riley Ledezmaa, Jordon Daimbrini-Palzzi, Albert Liwag, Sofia Pineda, Kirsten Rast, Steven Shatkin, Sarah Blakenship, James Daniele, Daniel Deegan, Kristy Ewing, Natalie Hartel, Marty Thai, Samantha Winberry, Pimvenus Clark, Christian Kemsley, Mia Daniele, Kevin Rast and Mrs. Guzman (Hart High teacher).

The sets and costumes were by Mark and Lynn Mcquown and the lighting was mastered by Andy Turpin and Patrick Sayegh.

Tickets are $10 and are sold at the door. For advance tickets, visit www.hartdrama.com and reserve or call (661) 259-7575, ext. 212 and leave a message.

Hart High School’s Auditorium is located at 24825 Newhall Ave. in Newhall.
