Alcohol might have played a role in sending a car over the side of San Francisquito Road Thursday, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The motorist lost control of his white BMW driving northbound on San Francisquito Road near Copper Hill Road about 3 p.m., said Eric Bejar, CHP officer.

The car tumbled down a 30-foot embankment, ejecting the driver from the car, he said.

"It looks like alcohol played a role in the accident," Bejar said.

An emergency crew arrived at the scene at 3:06 p.m. and found the driver lying face down more than 20 feet from the car, Bejar said.

Open alcohol containers littered the interior and the ground around the crunched car.

"You could smell alcohol on the driver's breath," Bejar said.

The driver was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with what Bejar described as moderate injuries.

CHP will investigate the accident to determine whether charges will be filed against the driver, Bejar said.
