For the past 15 years, the Santa Clarita Sunrise Rotary Club hosts a Halloween party for children and their parents at the Newhall Community Center.
The event begins with children lining up to receive a free pumpkin before entering the center.
Tables are set up with a variety of items to use to decorate the pumpkins.
Colorful pipe cleaners, glitter, colored paper and lots of glue are set out for the children to use.
More than 500 decorated pumpkins were judged.
The event also features a chili hot dog dinner.
After the tables are cleared the children and parents sit down to watch the entertainment. This year, the Star Dance Studio provided entertainment with 20 of their students doing a variety of dance routines.
Meanwhile, the judges looked at all of the decorated pumpkins and chose first-, second- and third-place winners in three age categories (under 5 years, 5-9 years, and 10-15 years).
Prizes are offered for the Best Decorated Pumpkins and winners of the Costume Parade.
First-place prizes were tickets to Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Judges for this year’s event included Duane Harte, Diana Shaw and Ed Fonnegra.
