David Guenther, owner of J. David’s, poses at the Valencia store with a sign promoting the Michael Hoefflin Foundation’s year-end outreach drive with local businesses.

J. David’s Custom Clothiers is donating $75 for every suit sold, whether custom made or off the rack, to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation all day on Thursday.

David Guenther, owner of J. David’s, said he has a custom-suit-maker flying in for the event, part of a year-end outreach drive by the nonprofit to raise money for pediatric cancer.

“This is the beginning of our year-end outreach,” said Jon Hutson, Michael Hoefflin Foundation board member and owner of the Brand Culture I. He presented the idea to J. David’s, Salt Creek Grille, J. Serraino’s and The Paseo Club, and all four businesses signed on to help families and children struggling with cancer, Hutson said. “We’re working with businesses to align their business, their brand and their philanthropic strategy to benefit both a cause and their business,” he said.

“We can work together to help support the local community and the foundation.”

At J. David’s on Thursday, fabrics not currently available in the store will accompany the suit-maker, such as cashmeres from Italy and other fabrics, Guenther said.

To help boost donations for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation, Guenther is also offering $250 off every suit sold, in addition to the donation his store is making to the nonprofit.

To create a draw for the special event, Guenther received permission from Westfield Valencia Town Center to bring in the Lance Allyn jazz band to play on The Patios, where his store is located, facing the parking lot.

Guenther said he is excited to partner with Don and Cheri Fleming of Valencia Acura for the event. The dealership will display autos on The Patios surrounding the store between 5 and 9 p.m.

As soon as the Flemings heard about the event, they wanted to support it, Guenther said.

“J. David’s is one of the top (custom suit) producers in the country, so the custom suit-maker was happy to fly out and do the event with us,” Guenther said.

“We’re very happy to support the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for pediatric cancer,” he said.

In business nearly three decades, Guenther himself suffered a brain aneurysm some three years ago and was only given a 2-percent chance of living.

After surviving 29 hours of surgery at UCLA Medical Center, Guenther made a full recovery.

During his recuperation period, Guenther said clients offered to make deliveries or pick up items for the business. He was so overwhelmed by their generosity he’s been motivated to give back to the community.

The event to support the Michael Hoefflin Foundation is Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at J. David’s Custom Clothiers, 24201 Valencia Blvd., at Westfield Valencia Town Center at The Patios in Valencia.
