West Ranch High School junior Jamie Kwon won first place in the senior flute category at the Golden Jubilee Season of Southern California Junior Bach Festival on Oct. 2.
She also performed at the SCJBF Complete Works Awards Concert, which took place Oct. 15 at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles.
This year, Kwon, 16, has won first place in California State Long Beach High School flute competition, first place winnings at the 2011 Southern Youth Music Festival competition in three categories, including the Open Solo category, Open Baroque category and Open American category.
As a member of Young Musicians Foundation chamber series, Kwon’s quintet group was selected as best performing group and received $1,000 scholarship in April.
Kwon has studied the flute for six years and is principal flutist of Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra.
