Hart Regiment students Courtney Nix and Garett Dahl participate in the recent West Ranch Wildcat Classic at Valencia High School. Hart Regiment received the top awards at the first competition of the season.

Hart High School’s award-winning marching band and color guard, Hart Regiment, received top awards at its first Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association marching band competition of the season earlier this month.

On Oct. 1, the band participated in the West Ranch Wildcat Classic at Valencia High School and was tournament sweepstakes winner with 80.10 net score. The colorguard was also sweepstakes winner with a score of 76.5 points.

“This is a great way to start the competition season,” band director Anthony Bailey said. “I’m so proud of the students’ hard work and dedication; achieving a score in the 80s this early in the season is very difficult.

“We have a lot to look forward to with many future competitions, including our own Rampage Field Show Tournament, which is on Nov. 5 this year, and defending our state champion title in December,” he said.

In 2010, Hart Regiment was named state champion in its division by the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association for the ninth consecutive year, an accomplishment that remains unmatched by any other group.

Hosted by Hart Regiment, the 28th annual Rampage Field Show Tournament Nov. 5, held at College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium, has traditionally been the only band competition to feature all six William S. Hart Union High School District high schools. This year, 30 bands from across the state and the southwest will be participating.

Rampage tickets will be available on the day of the competition. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and free for children under 5. The event is an all day event starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 10 p.m. For more information, call Rampage co-chair Paul Cardey at (818) 266-4120 or visit
