Firefighters made quick work of a brush fire that broke out in Val Verde shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

By 9:04 p.m. the slow-moving blaze had been knocked down, after it chewed through about 3 acres of brush, said Supervisor Andre Gougis with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire sparked up on a hillside near Val Verde Park. There were no reported injuries or structure damage.

The cause of the fire was unclear Tuesday night.

Approximately 50 firefighters responded, Gougis said. The initial response came from nearby Fire Station 76. Crews also responded from stations 73 and 126, as well as the Ventura County Fire Department.

Val Verde is a rural community in unincorporated Los Angeles County, minutes west of Castaic.
